Access External SSRS Reports (BI) in Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012

Problem Statement:

We have developed SSRS reports based on Data Warehousing (also called Business Intelligence Reports), and we want to access/open those reports from Dynamics AX.

Solution:

Host those reports at the same location where standard AX reports are hosted (Reporting server). Below are instructions that will describe the way to link those external SSRS reports in AX 2012, so that one can view/access reports by just one single click within AX.

Instructions:

Step 1: Create a new form and right-click on it then goto design and add a new control as shown below.

Step 2: Now create a menu Item of Display type and set their properties as shown below.

Step 3: Then goto form methods and write the code in classDeclaration as shown below.

Step 4: Now create a new method getReportServerConfiguration and add the following code as shown below.

Step 5: Now override init method and add the following code. In this method, replace the link, folder and server name in URL according to yours defined.

Now drag and drop the menuItem in the AX module of which report belongs to. Finally, open the menuItem and report will display in Microsoft Web Browser.

You are now all set!
